Improve Your Learning Efficiency with Cornell Notes

Dilated pupils, for example, can indicate that a person is excited or attracted to the person they are talking to. Conversely, if a person's pupils are constricted, they may be disinterested or uncomfortable.

Dialtion

Direct and prolonged eye contact can indicate confidence, attentiveness, and interest. Avoiding eye contact can indicate that a person is hiding something or is not being truthful.

Eye Contact

Vocal fillers such as "um" or "ah" can indicate hesitation or uncertainty. They can also indicate that a person is trying to buy time to think about what to say next or not sure about the answer.

A decrease in blinking rate can indicate, interest or deception. A normal blink rate is about 10 to 15 times per minute. Rapid blinking can indicate nervousness or lying. Excessive blinking can indicate discomfort or dishonesty. Long blinks can indicate boredom or lack of interest.

Re-usable: The insight needs to allow for methods of interaction. It should be classified in a manner that you recognise, it should point back to the source etc.

A fine line between PREPARATION and PROCRASTINATION

Yes, getting ready is comfortable. But most successful people report feeling uncomfortable when they first got started. Many still feel uncomfortable—or, in the words of Larry Page, “uncomfortably excited”—many years after they achieved what many would consider as huge successes.

How To Manage Time As A Student 

Cramming sis terribly inefficient; four hours of cramming is worse than four hours of study spread out over several weeks or months. This is how memory works in general; we want information to stay in our long-term memory since retrieving it will be much simpler than if we store it in our short term memory

#9 Avoid 'cramming'

how to prepare well for exams or in general learn effectively is something nobody teaches us in school or university. Try tactics such as Active Recall and spaced repetition. These tactics can effectively free up a large amount of your time.

#8 Learn How To Study Effectively 

There is a belief that because studying is so difficult and stressful, you think you need three hours each night to unwind and that time must be spent watching TV and browsing Instagram because that is what you count as your "Self care time." This belief is valid, but it's also acceptable to experiment a little and to raise doubts about your beliefs regarding how much quick self-care you actually require. What i am trying to say in short is try spending 30 minutes less on your self care time and you'll see a difference.

#7 Be Experimental With Self Care Time

How would you prefer to spend your time if you could design your life anyway you wanted, and then compare that to how you're really spending your time right now. Then ask yourself why your present life isn't like that and what techniques you might take to move your current life closer to your ideal li

#6 Work Out Your Ideal Ordinary Week

Revision schedules are a complete fiction, they're a terrible waste of time, they're simply a method for us to postpone and procrastinate, they're a way for us to feel good about the fact that we're intending to do all this revision but then when we get down to it, we don't actually follow the revision timetable. Unless you're one of the rare diligent students who adheres to a revision schedule, in which case you probably wouldn't be reading this idea on time management.

#5 Scrap Revision Timetables 

I discovered that anytime I remained up until 2 a.m. to hang out with friends or do anything relaxing, nothing positive came of it. I believe 2 a.m. is the time at which you realize you've had your profound chats from 10 P.m. to 2 a.m.. Nothing nice happens between the hours of 2 and 6 a.m. It basically means you screwed yourself for the following day because you're now burnt out, fatigued, and exhausted, and you have to go to lectures, where you're falling asleep, and it all becomes a nightmare.

#4 Nothing Good Happens After 2 Am

It's exhausting trying to remember all you need to accomplish. Another advantage of utilizing a calendar is that it allows you to be more thoughtful about how you spend your time. Whether you decide that one of the things you want to accomplish at university is participate in an extra project or whatever, you may look at your schedule and see if you actually have the time to do so. It's so easy to beat ourselves up because we believe we should be doing a hundred other things, but if you run your life on a calendar, and your calendar is somewhat accurate.

#3 Run Your Life Religiously Based On A Calendar 

you can physically see if you have the time to accomplish this. Let's assume I want to do my sports, my socializing, and my self-care, how many hours are legitimately left in the day to do other things, and if you run your life through a calendar, you'll have a good idea of what that is, and if you don't, you can wind up wasting a lot of time and You can also find yourself beating yourself up and flagellating yourself for not doing enough when, in reality, you're accomplishing a lot but aren't aware of it since you don't use a calendar.

When you schedule things, you may start using the time you save to accomplish something deliberate rather than something unintentional. In general, scrolling Instagram or Tiktok is an unintentional way to spend time; it's just one of those things you end up doing because you have like 12 minutes and you're like, well, you can't do any work in 12 minutes so you might as well just scroll Instagram that's not like intentional and the thing I always try to tell myself is time is the only thing we have, time is the only resource we can't make more of.

#2 Schedule Absolutely Everything 

So why am I wasting my time on this world, my valuable time on this earth, doing something I don't honestly want to do, and so what I discovered is that when I arrange things using a calendar and find these tiny blocks of time, I also try not to squander those minutes.

I used to beat myself up when I didn't feel productive enough that day or when I didn't get through the subjects on my crappy revision timetable, and I realized that beating myself up doesn't actually change how much work I've managed to do, it doesn't change anything about how effective my studying was, all it does is make me feel bad for the rest of the evening and make me struggle to sleep, and it doesn't even help me like it doesn't even galvanise my motivation to do more work the next day because it's like every day is an individual day and if I did poorly one day,

#1 Choose To Be Satisfied With How You Spend Time 

I'm not any more likely to do well the next day and so the real hack here is whatever you manage to do, however much studying you manage to do at the end of the day, you can choose to be satisfied with what you have done

Table tennis players often seem to have lightning fast reaction times, right? But when scientists ran a bunch of tests on the English national team’s players, they found the best player, <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Desmond_Douglas">Desmond Douglas </a>, to have the slowest reaction times. How does this go together? Douglas’s brain has been trained to quickly assess situations in a table tennis match , through years of practice, but only when he’s playing.

Lesson 1: When you practice a lot, 2 changes will make your brain more effective.

Because he’s seen so many balls fly towards him in so many different ways, his brain can easily estimate even the most complex trajectories and give him more time to react than other players with less practice. However, that doesn’t make him a better driver. In an everyday car crash, he wouldn’t hit the brakes any faster than you or me.

The second thing that happens is that his brain uses other areas to perform than the brain of a beginner . Since a lot of his actions happen on autopilot, the subconscious parts of his brain are really in charge here. Instead of wasting the resources of his <a href="http://fourminutebooks.com/happiness-summary/">prefrontal cortex </a>on trying to get the ball spin right, he can use his brain to think about tactics, because the movements of his hand are taken care of.

Do you know the story of the 4 minute mile? Basically, for thousands of years humans believed it was not possible to run a mile in less than 4 minutes. It seemed like the human body just wasn’t capable of doing it. The record stalled in the 1940’s, for 9 years no one could get past 4:01.

Lesson 2: You can be inspired to work hard by the most trivial details.

Over the next 4 years, 20 more people broke the barrier, bringing the record all the way down to 3:56. When the hell did it become so easy for so many people? The moment someone did it, that had even the slightest relation to them. 11 of those 20 people come from UK-related countries (Ireland, NZ, AUS). Roger Bannister was British.

Syed calls this motivation by association. He says if we find even the slightest similarity between someone successful and ourselves, it can motivate us to multiply our work efforts.

What happened to Eminem when he finally got his shot to show everyone how good he was at rapping live on stage? <a href="https://youtu.be/DHMF-bVxlkc?t=1m32s">He choked </a>. Looking into hundreds of faces, knowing they were all expecting him to fail, the pressure to perform became so enormous, that all his hardly trained rhyming skills seemed to vanish. What can happen to all performers in such a high pressure situation, is that their conscious brain takes over, because it usually allows them to take extra caution and be very alert of every movement, so they don’t make a mistake.

Lesson 3: You can tell yourself an event is not a big deal to avoid choking under pressure.

However, when it’s all on the line, that’s not exactly what you want. It’s right in those moments that you want your subconscious to be in charge, so you can actually reap the benefits of all your hard training. You can combat this performance anxiety by telling yourself that it’s really not such a big deal and that the event doesn’t matter to you.

Compare it to your health, your family, your spouse or your best friends – does it really matter whether you win or lose the Super Bowl? This will allow you to stress less and unleash your hard earned skills. And sure enough, once he stopped giving a damn about the whole event or what everyone thinks of him, <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sHE0wmgljco">Eminem went back and crushed it </a>.
