There were many months leading to the war at Winterfell. The time wan’t just spent talking. A lot of things will test you and try to break you in business. Many times, they are unforeseen.During the War at Winterfell, a lot of unplanned events took place. The Dothraki army were wiped out in seconds, the Winterfell gates were breached early, the Night King raised the dead back to life, and it was looking impossible for anyone to protect Bran for much longer, the target of the Night King.But you know what, they fought to the end and it made all the difference.Lesson - don’t be quick to give up. The Book of All Books

Any author willing to title one of their books The Book of All Books has chutzpah to spare. In the case of Roberto Calasso, whose death this year brought to a close a unique chapter in European literary history, the chutzpah in question was cosmic in its breadth. An unclassifiable author of unclassifiable books, he spent his career trying to fulfil what he once referred to as “the only ambition one can legitimately attribute to literature”: unpicking the wiring of “the ancient electrical system that is our mind”.

A Chutzpah to Spare

The result is a strange running work that Calasso referred to simply as his “opera”: an untitled sequence of 11 books published over four decades, and dedicated to turning over the oldest substrata of human myth and history in search of how and why we are wired the way we are. The penultimate entry in the opera (the last is due out in English next year), The Book of All Books continues the search with what might be billed as a retelling of the Hebrew Old Testament, treated as only Calasso could treat it.

Retelling might be a misleading term, especially in the midst of the vogue for digestibly repackaged ancient myth. This is neither a handy guide to half-remembered stories from distant RE lessons nor a set of tales retold with modern mores in mind. Yes, there is narrative here, and much of what is most enjoyable in The Book of All Books consists in it, but narrative is not the point. What is really going on is a sustained work of human mental archaeology that has over the course of Calasso’s life subsumed sources of every origin and era – from ancient Greece, India, Africa and Mesopotamia.

When the 80/20 Rule Fails: The Downside of Being Effective

THIS IS JUST MY OPINION!if you are really unsure on what genre to start from well there are pretty basic mangas for everyone. Some of those mangas are:<ul><li>Death note</li><li>Attack on titan</li><li>Hunter x Hunter</li><li>The promised neverland</li><li>Parasyte</li></ul>These are some of the basic mangas that everyone starts reading when they are not sure what to read. If you have a genre you like then next topics could be good for you.If you are not keen on mangas and prefer some animations i will make a seperated post for Anime as well.

Manga And What Genre To Read

When it comes to action in mangas there are a lot of options, but where to start? There are obviously actions of different types. It depends on do you like heavy bloody stories, people fighting demons, more of normal action etc. These are some of the mangas I recommend and i love to read<ul><li>Demon slayer</li><li>Hunter x Hunter</li><li>Chainsaw man</li><li>Attack on titan</li><li>Jujutsu kaisen</li><li>One punch man</li><li>Tokyo revengers</li></ul>you can check them online if any of these peak your interest and they are a great way to start into the genre

Action Mangas

If horror is what brings you joy (like it does for me) look no further than the author Junji Itou. He is a famous writer who makes really interesting story on a different creepy level. But there are also other mangas worth reading as well.<ul><li>Any Junji Itou (but specifically Uzumaki)</li><li>Portus</li><li>Fuan no tane</li><li>Ibitsu</li><li>Doubt</li><li>Judge</li></ul>As i said Junji Itou is a great start but all of these mentioned are personal favourites and they deserve a spotlight. Choose which one is your style, maybe even if you dont like horror you may find an interesting piece.

I have always been a fan of mystery but did not read a lot of mystery to tell you which one is the best, but for starters this mangas will work. If you are fan of this genre I recommend reading more suggestions online if this wasnt enough.<ul><li>This man</li><li>Death note</li><li>Monster</li><li>Tokyo Ghoul</li><li>Parasyte</li><li>The promised neverland</li></ul>

Mystery 

Not my favourite genre to go to but i will not lie if my best manga had fallen into this genre and that manga is Blue lock. If you are interested in character development that is always exceeding your beliefs and unexpected future outcomes this is the one for you. And obviously it is not my favourite manga for no reason.Also have to give a shoutout to Haikyuu (manga about volleyball) for being one of the most fun to read mangas. I am having a good time reading it and i hope you will as well.

Sport

This is for casual people that most likely like day to day typical stories. Personally i really liked rent a girlfriend and look back. I have yet to finish blue period but it is really good for now<ul><li>Rent a girlfriend </li><li>Blue period</li><li>Look back</li></ul>

Slice Of Life

Webtoon is typically different than mangas but i wanted to put it here as well for you to read. I have been fascinating over webtoons for few months now and cant get enough so here are my recommendations.<ul><li>Pigpen (as my favourite webtoon)</li><li>Sweet home</li><li>Shotgun boy</li><li>Foul smell</li><li>Bastard</li></ul>One more i have to mention is horans nightmare because it uses sounds and 3d animation. They may be the jankiest😂 but it still fairly good

Manga, and where to start

From the beginning of time humanity connected to a collective sense of meaning through myths & stories. In the West, a lot of our identity is shaped by Christian stories. With the advent of technology, we moved away from superstition and embraced rationality & technology. SF in a way is plucking that hole, discussing the philosophy of science. Dune, for example, shares a lot of its narrative ark with Jesus's hero journey but replaces the historical background of Ancient Rome with space feudal lords.

SF is about the mythos of science

SF, the good SF at lest, is working on the same big questions we keep asking as human beings, but from a place of scientific understanding rather than assuming everything is God-made:<ul><li>What is our purpose in an infinite universe that does not seem to care about us?</li><li>Are we alone or there are other consciousness we can interact with?</li><li>Can we make our own path using technology? </li><li>Can we escape death? Can we become Gods?</li><li>What makes us human in materialistic universe?</li><li>What is good and evil if there is no ultimate judge?</li><li>How do we know what's real?</li><li>etc...</li></ul>

The big questions of a scientific world

Most SF starts with the assumption progress is going to be fully technological. 2001, the Stanley Kubrick movie, explores the idea that technology can only take us so far, & altering our consciousness is the real way fwd.In 2001, the rise of the human from the apes happens through the obelisk, an awakening event. And while humans evolve their tech to the point of creating a general AI, HAL9000, it turns out that the AI will inherit our human flaws. The ending of the movie, the psychedelic scene, is a statement that we have to upgrade our consciousness to go to the next stage.

Psychological Progress: 2001: A Space Odyssey

Dune explores the rise of a Messiah. We go from prince Paul Atrides to Muad'Dib. But his ark is not a traditional hero ark, as described by Cambell.Paul's abilities are transformed by the spice. he becomes a God only after taking on drugs.The book appeared during the Hippie Generation and while it's unclear whether Frank Herbert experienced LSD, it is a product of that culture. Paul goes on a drug-induced trip while the houses went to battle, just as the US students discovered LSD during the Vietnam war.

Dune, the movie, gave me a thirst for deep SF. I am so happy I discovered Damien, a SF nerd with a very philosophical analysis of SF. I stashed a few ideas that stuck with me.

Dune & the Deeper Meaning of Sci Fi, Rebel Wisdom

At Netflix, running A/B tests, where possible, allows us to substantiate causality and confidently make changes to the product knowing that our members have voted for them with their actions.An A/B test starts with an idea — some change we can make to the UI, the personalization systems that help members find content, the signup flow for new members, or any other part of the Netflix experience that we believe will produce a positive result for our members.

Running controlled experiments: A/B Testing

To run the experiment, we take a subset of our members, usually a simple random sample, and then use random assignment to evenly split that sample into two groups. Group “A,” often called the “control group,” continues to receive the base Netflix UI experience, while Group “B,” often called the “treatment group”, receives a different experience, based on a specific hypothesis about improving the member experience (more on those hypotheses below). Here, Group B receives the Upside Down box art.

With many experiments, including the Upside Down box art example, we need to think carefully about what our metrics are telling us. Suppose we look at the click-through rate, measuring the fraction of members in each experience that clicked on a title. This metric alone may be a misleading measure of whether this new UI is a success, as members might click on a title in the Upside Down product experience only in order to read it more easily.

Controlled Experiment results

Because we create our control (“A”) and treatment (“B”) groups using random assignment, we can ensure that individuals in the two groups are, on average, balanced on all dimensions that may be meaningful to the test. Random assignment ensures, for example, that the average length of Netflix membership is not markedly different between the control and treatment groups, nor are content preferences, primary language selections, and so forth.

Everything Else is Constant

A/B tests let us make causal statements. We’ve introduced the Upside Down product experience to Group B only, and because we’ve randomly assigned members to groups A and B, everything else is held constant between the two groups. We can therefore conclude with high probability (more on the details next time) that the Upside Down product caused the reduction in engagement.

Causal Connections

With the Top 10 example, the hypothesis read: “Showing members the Top 10 experience will help them find something to watch, increasing member joy and satisfaction.” The primary decision metric for this test (and many others) is a measure of member engagement with Netflix: are the ideas we are testing helping our members to choose Netflix as their entertainment destination on any given night? Our research shows that this metric (details omitted) is correlated, in the long term, with the probability that members will retain their subscriptions.

What is an A/B Test?

Netflix was created with the idea of putting consumer choice and control at the centre of the entertainment experience, and as a company, we continuously evolve our product offerings to improve on that value proposition. Back in 2010, the Netflix UI was static, with limited navigation options and a presentation inspired by displays at a video rental store.Now, the UI is immersive and video-forward, the navigation options richer but less obtrusive, and the box art presentation takes greater advantage of the digital experience.

At Netflix, we believe there’s a better way to make decisions about how to improve the experience we deliver to our members: we use A/B tests. Experimentation scales. Instead of small groups of executives or experts contributing to a decision, experimentation gives all our members the opportunity to vote, with their actions, on how to continue to evolve their joyful Netflix experience.

A/B testing, along with other causal inference methods like quasi-experimentation are ways that Netflix uses the scientific method to inform decision making.We form hypotheses, gather empirical data, including from experiments, that provide evidence for or against our hypotheses, and then make conclusions and generate new hypotheses.

Experimentation plays a critical role in the iterative cycle of deduction (drawing specific conclusions from a general principle) and induction (formulating a general principle from specific results and observations) that underpins the scientific method.

We can’t always follow the conventional norm and depend on historic data to tell us what’s next; innovative businesses should always consider taking calculated risks with their <a href="https://www.entrepreneur.com/topic/marketing-strategies">marketing strategies</a>.  Netflix released such a show because audiences are bored of the copy-paste-styled shows now available on all these streaming services. There was a gap in the market, almost a need for something odd and fresh like Squid Game. Regular content can get your business mediocre attention, but a strong concept that is intriguing and fresh can make you go viral, resulting in a lot of free marketing.

We don’t know what consumers really want until they show us

Serious brands that take an informal approach on the platform get a lot more praise and attention, resulting in higher free impressions. Consumers have evolved; they now want a brand they can relate to and feel a deeper connection with than just a traditional transactional relationship. The great advantage for Squid Game is that the only way to understand the jokes going viral is to watch the show because of how specific they are. This can work great for a marketing strategy. Make your campaign so unique and specific that you turn your audiences into advocates for the story.

When your brand has a viral TikTok trend, it’s bound for success

Word-of-mouth hyping up a TV show at such an accelerated pace is something we have never seen before. Netflix is now investing in some marketing for the series with pop-up displays, which are not really intended to bring more attention, but rather to complement the ongoing buzz happening worldwide.  We, humans, want to share something odd like this violent game of death it gives us pleasure of some sort and makes for a great conversation starter. In the case of Squid Game, the violence and gore that kept the script on a shelf for a decade actually contributed to its success.
