A growth mindset is a frame of mind – a belief system – we adopt to process incoming information. People with a growth mindset look at challenges and change as a motivator to increase effort and learning.
True, you might fail. You might fail multiple times. You might fail so spectacularly that it paralyzes you and leaves you wondering what to do next. Remember sometimes it's not about winning it's about fighting.
It seems that increasingly often you hear the phrase, “It is what it is.” I was taking the phrase to mean, “It’s not this and it’s not that; it’s something more subtle that I don’t have a name for, and I’m ok with that.” In other words, I took it to be an indication that the speaker is letting the thing exist in all its rich uniqueness without having to categorize it or analyze it.
This sounds like a pretty dangerous assumption. However, what it sounds like is someone who has decided to stop growing. Till now many things have been changed, but you have to observe the change and learn to accept it. It benefits us to approach life believing that no matter how smart we may be, we always have something new to learn.
