Why We Should Welcome Emotions at Work - Mindful

Emotional Agility

Emotional agility is the capacity to be healthy with our thoughts, emotions and our being.

Our emotions need a level of gentle acceptance and compassion, as they are not good or bad by themselves. Self-hustling ourselves and trying to bring out only positive emotions does not work, because when we suppress certain emotions, they get amplified or show themselves in some other form.

  • We need to be compassionate and kind with the way we handle our difficult emotions, starting with accepting them.
  • We then need to be curious and mindful about the emotion, asking ourselves if this emotion is owning us or we are in command.
  • We need to be courageous with our self-understanding so that we can move forward in the direction of our values.
