A habit is a "settled or regular tendency or practice, especially one that is hard to give up."Simply put, a habit is something done consistently.

What Is It

I've found that "good" and "bad" are subjective terms. So I will will not be referring to the types of habits as "good" or "bad." Instead, they will be:<ul><li>Constructive </li><li>Destructive </li></ul>

Types

Habits where the pros outweigh the cons.(Just like good and bad, the pros and cons of something are subjective. But I think they have less moral weight behind them.)Exercise is a great example of a constructive habit. You get tired and sore, but over time you become stronger, have more energy, and are overall happier.I call them constructive because you are building a better life with them.

Constructive Habits

Habits where the cons outweigh the pros.Smoking is a good example of this. While nicotine does calm you down, long term use results in major lung and health problems.I call them destructive because you are worsening what you currently have.

Destructive Habits

Doing something everyday for 30 days makes it a habit.Obviously it doesn't need to be that exact formula, but it is the most effective.In the same sense, not doing something for 30 days will break the habit. Not necessarily the urge, but the habit.Keep in mind that progress is not linear. There will be days that you fail. Do not use this as an excuse to not form or break your habit, but as a reason to be patient with yourself.

Consistency Is Key

Make a list of things you want to do but are not doing.Some habits need to be gradually built up to, and some can be started immediately.Gradual habits include:<ul><li>Exercise</li><li>Reading</li><li>Writing</li></ul>Anything that requires stamina to be built up is gradual. Immediate habits include:<ul><li>Hygiene</li><li>Tidying Up</li><li>Tracking Expenses</li></ul>Anything small enough to not require much energy, mental or physical, to do.

Starting Habits

Make a list of things you are doing that you don't want to do.Much like the previous slide, habits can be destroyed gradually or immediately.Gradual habits include:<ul><li>Addictions</li><li>Harmful Thoughts</li><li>Poor Sleep Hygiene</li></ul>Anything that requires consistency over a long period of time is gradual.Immediate habits include:<ul><li>App Usage</li><li>Online Purchases</li><li>Not Getting Enough Fresh Air</li></ul>Anything that can be immediately and easily changed is considered immediate.

Earned Value Analysis (EVA) is a method that allows the project manager to measure the amount of work actually performed on a project beyond the basic review of cost and schedule reports.EVA provides a method that permits the project to be measured by progress achieved. The project manager is then able, using the progress measured, to forecast a project’s total cost and date of completion, based on trend analysis or application of the project’s “burn rate”.This method relies on a key measure known as the project’s earned value.

What is Earned Value Analysis?

Oftentimes the term “earned value” is defined as the “budgeted cost of worked performed” or BCWP.This budgeted cost of work performed measure enables the project manager to compute performance indices or burn rates for cost and schedule performance, which provides information on how well the project is doing or performing relative to its original plans.These indices, when applied to future work, allow for to project manager to forecast how the project will do in the future, assuming the burn rates will not fluctuate, which oftentimes is a large assumption.

What to remember about EVA...

Earned Value Management Systems allow the project manager to answer the following three questions, as they relate to the project:Where have we been?Where are we now?Where are we going?In Earned Value Management, unlike in traditional management, there are three data sources:– the budget (or planned) value of work scheduled– the actual value of work completed– the “earned value” of the physical work completedEarned Value takes these three data sources; compares the budgeted value of work scheduled & “earned value of physical work completed” & the actual value of work completed.

EVM Foundational Concepts

Planned Value describes how far along project work is supposed to be at any given point in the project schedule and cost estimate.PV, also known as Budget Cost of Work Scheduled (BCWS), can be defined as:<ul><li>Define Scope: What you are tasked to do (Scope Statement)</li><li>Assign Scope: Breakdown scope into manageable parts (WBS)</li><li>Schedule Scope: Time-phased, logic driven with critical path (Project Schedule)</li><li>Budget Scope: develop cost (budget) for all approved scope (Performance Measurement Baseline)</li><li>Baseline: Snap-shot in time, frozen. What performance measurement will be based upon.</li></ul>

Planned Value (PV)

Actual Cost (AC), also called actual expenditures, is the cost incurred for executing work on a project. This figure tells you what you have spent and, as with Planned Value, can be looked at in terms of cumulative and current.<ul><li>Cumulative AC is the sum of the actual cost for activities performed to date.</li><li>Current AC is the actual costs of activities performed during a given period. This period could represent days, weeks, months, etc. AC is also called Actual Cost of Work Performed (ACWP).</li></ul>

Actual Costs (AC)

To report the accomplishments of the project, you must apply Earned Value (EV) to the figures and calculations in the project. EV is the quantification of the “worth” of the work done to date.In other words, EV tells you, in physical terms, what the project has accomplished. As with PV and AC, EV can be presented in a Cumulative and Current fashion.<ul><li>Cumulative EV is the sum of the budget for the activities accomplished to date.</li><li>Current EV is the sum of the budget for the activities accomplished in a given period. Earned Value is also called Budgeted Cost of Work Performed (BCWP).</li></ul>

Earned Value (EV)

The PM will be provided with financial information from accounting that will expressed the actual cost incurred on the project's work is performed, then the PM will seek information from the team that will state the budgeted cost of work performed on the project, or earned value.After those three values are established, a variance analysis can be performed.There are two basic expressions of variance, schedule variance and cost variance.

Variance Analysis (VA)

Schedule Variance status does indicate the dollar value difference between work that is ahead or behind the plan and reflects a given measurement method.Schedule Variance status does not address impact of work sequence.The formula utilized to express schedule variance is project earned value minus the project planned value as of the date of examination.*VERY IMPORTANT*(SV = EV – PV) If the variance is equal to 0, the project is on schedule.If a negative variance is determined, the project is behind schedule and if the variance is positive the project is ahead of schedule.

Schedule Variance (SV)

The cost variance is defined as the “difference between earned value and actual costs. (CV = EV – AC)” (PMI, 2004, p. 357)Sometimes this formula is expressed as the difference between budgeted cost of work performed and actual cost work performed.*VERY IMPORTANT*If the variance is equal to 0, the project is on budget.If a negative variance is determined, the project is over budget and if the variance is positive the project is under budget.

Cost Variance (CV)

Another analysis that can be done by using EVMS is that of Performance or establishing the project’s burn rate.Two examination of performance are available to the project manager, Schedule Performance Index (SPI) and Cost Performance Index (CPI).

Performance Indexes (PI)

The SPI is defined by PMI’s PMBOK® Guide as “a measure of schedule efficiency on a project.It is the ratio of earned value (EV) to planned value (PV). The SPI is equal to earned value divided by planned value, SPI = EV/PV.An SPI equal to or greater than one indicates a favorable condition and a value of less than one indicates an unfavorable condition.Assuming your SPI efficiency remains through out the reminder of work; your project will finish ahead of schedule.

Schedule Performance Index (SPI)

The CPI is defined by PMI’s PMBOK® Guide as a measure of cost efficiency on a project.It is the ratio of earned value (EV) to actual costs (AC). The CPI is equal to the earned value divided by the actual costs, CPI = EV – AC.Assuming your CPI efficiency remains the same throughout the reminder of work; your project will be over budget.

Cost Performance Index (CPI) Deeper Understanding Pt.2

Anticipating future progress requires determining when the project will be completed and how much it will cost to complete it.The Estimate at Completion (EAC) is the actual cost to date plus an objective estimate of costs for remaining authorized work.The objective in preparing an EAC is to provide an accurate projection of cost at the completion of the project.The Budget at Completion (BAC) is the sum of all budgets allocated to a project scope.The Project BAC must always equal the Project Total PV. If they are not equal, your earned value calculations and analysis will be inaccurate.

Estimates to Complete (EAC)

<ul><li>Planned Value (PV) - How much work should be done?</li><li>Earned Value (EV) - How much work was done?</li><li>Actual Cost (AC) - How much did the work cost?</li><li>Budget at Completion (BAC) - What is the total job budgeted to cost?</li><li>Estimate at Completion (EAC) - What do we expect the total job to cost?</li></ul>The EAC is the best estimate of the total cost at the completion of the project. The EAC is a periodic evaluation of the project status, usually on a monthly basis or when a significant change happens to the project.

<ol><li>Organize the project team & the scope of work, using a work breakdown structure. Each task should have a single WBS number and organizational code.</li><li>Schedule the tasks in a logical manner so that lower level schedule elements & the top level milestones.</li><li>Allocate the total budget resources to time-phased control accounts.</li><li>Establish objective means for measuring work accomplishment. Budget should be earned equal to planning.</li><li>Control the project by analyzing cost and performance variances, assessing final costs, developing corrective actions, and controlling changes to the integrated baseline.</li></ol>

Descartes saw knowledge as a structure firmly rooted in solid ground, a foundation to build upon. Yet when we compare this to our planetary system, we see that even the Earth floats freely in space, bound not by foundational structures but by forces and relationships. Our planets of belief aren't isolated. They are frequently bombarded with new information, much like meteors crashing onto a planet. At the same time, we resist information that challenges our established views, a phenomenon known as confirmation bias. My longest relationship finished a few months before I read Models. So I wanted to get back in the seduction game. But I was rusty. Or better, I sucked in the seduction game. So, I needed a step-by-step book that could push me ahead. In Models, Manson doesn’t focus on tricking girls as many seduction gurus do. And I liked it. He suggests, instead, to find your unique style and story and use it to attract people.People criticized me for my changes, sometimes even my family. But I never turned back. And today, everything I have started with my hormones wanting to get laid.

The Challenge

Finding your uniqueness is a slow process with many experiments involved. But people don’t like changes. So, get used to the critics. Your friends will feel uncomfortable with your new you, and they will try to push you back. Some of them may leave. The ones who matter will stay. But that’s not important because you will find many friends on your path.The key to finding your uniqueness is to change one small thing at a time. And observe how people react to it.If they try to push you back in the herd, it means it’s working. And if you insist, they will accept and respect you for who you are.

But let’s talk business now.Trying things out is the best way to become unique. Eventually, you will find something you like. And people will recognize you for it.But how do you find those things? How can you build your uniqueness? Where should you start from?Here are some ideas of things I did in the past.

How to Find Your Uniqueness

Who am I?Ask anybody this question, and they will answer with the first thing that comes to mind. It doesn’t matter which. But keep asking it, and they will finally start to think about their answer.So, who are you?Answer this question five, ten, twenty, and fifty times until you find something that truly represents you. Each of us has a unique story and a distinctive path in the future. So, search for your roots and <a href="https://www.cosmopolitanmindset.com/the-hidden-reason-you-havent-found-your-life-purpose-yet/">find your purpose</a>.

1 – Start from your roots (1)

Here are a few ideas on how to find and build your story:<ul><li>Never answer with a place if somebody asks you where you lived in the past. Describe your youth and how you grew up instead. </li><li>Don’t tell people how old you are. Tell them why you love or hate your birthday. </li><li>Nobody cares where you are working or studying. Show people why you love or hate what you are doing. </li></ul>So, always focus on the purpose instead of the mere description. And you will find your uniqueness.

Strong desires and purposes are irresistible. And hearing someone talking about their dreams with such strength and courage, it’s captivating.When I was younger, I envied those people because I couldn’t find something that I liked that much. Eventually, I found a passion that gave me the same feelings, and the envy stopped. So, search for a purpose and focus only on that.Finding your passion is the first step. But your job doesn’t end there. You must explore it too.

Suppose you are talking with a person for the first time. You ask them what they like, and they say they enjoy watching sports. Any sport? Football.Nice. Now, run away. Don’t waste your time with people who don’t know what to say about their passions. You have to avoid this from happening to you. So, find a passion and make it specific. Understand why you like it and why it improves your life.People don’t have time to listen to you saying nothing. But they will find it if you catch their attention with your uniqueness. And your passions are one way you can feed it.

Manson’s best advice in Models is to be vulnerable and show it. People prefer to connect with someone who has his weaknesses instead of those who hide them.Perfect people are annoying. They stink because we can never trust them. And we don’t like those who try to trick us. But by opening up to critics and vulnerabilities, you will become irresistible.

3 – Show your vulnerabilities (1)

There are many reasons why it happens. Let’s see the main ones.<ul><li>You could use your vulnerabilities for self-irony. And self-irony is ten times better than making fun of somebody else. People will never trust those who make too many jokes about others. So you better avoid it and focus on yourself.</li><li>Common weaknesses make people empathize with you. And if you learn to express your flaws, they will think you are unique because they can identify with your struggles.</li></ul>

3 – Show your vulnerabilities (2)

Nobody likes rules. They are boring and annoying. And they limit our freedom and creativity. For this reason, people with different values and morality are attractive. The novelty of their ideas seduces us. And we find them unique.Therefore, break from conformity if you want to be unique.Try things people don’t do. Find your look away from the fashion of the moment. And don’t be afraid to talk about your tastes. Stand your ground and share them even if they are unconventional.
