When Boredom Strikes

When Boredom Strikes

Whenever we reach for our phones when we're bored we want to relieve feelings of fatigue and boredom, but a study suggests that doing so only increases those feelings even more.

The study's results showed that even though we're on our phones a lot, we still take "phone breaks" every 20 minutes or so and spend about 90 seconds every time.

Increased Boredom After Phone Breaks

There are two speculated reasons as to why we're more bored after taking phone breaks;

  •  Switching from work to your phone and back again may end up being more mentally tiring than it is stimulating; and
  • Picking up our phones might serve as reminders of all the fun we could be doing instead of doing work-related things.

How To Take Better Breaks

  • Practice mindfulness and drink a hot beverage -- tea, coffee, cocoa;
  • Take a walk down the block or in a park;
  • Sketch something or doodle;
  • Talk to someone -- having a simple conversation with someone you like talking to is a mood booster; or
  • Read a book, a couple pages or chapters, depends on how long you plan on taking a break!

This app is LOADED with RELEVANT, HELPFUL, AND EDUCATIONAL material. It is creatively intellectual, yet minimal enough to not overstimulate and create a learning block. I am exceptionally impressed with this app!
