— a slim, simply worded collection of Thich Nhat Han's immeasurably wise insights on the most complex and most rewarding human potentiality
Love is understanding the other person-Seeking to understand their sufferings and tribulations
According to him, making other's suffering your own is painful and disturbing if you have a small heart ,but when you expand your heart and mind , then the same suffering becomes much more palpable and it becomes easy to understand and accept those who suffer
How to grow our own hearts?
By feeding and supporting our own happiness, we nourish our ability to love.
To love means also to learn the art of nourishing our happiness
"The most precious inheritance that parents can give their children is their own happiness. Our parents may be able to leave us money, houses, and land, but they may not be happy people. If we have happy parents, we have received the richest inheritance of all"
We need to first love and understand ourselves, and out of this understanding we can seek to understand another's suffering. But when compassion for ourselves is lacking and we don't understand self, out of this misunderstanding arises an incomplete love for another, which serves as a distraction for our own suffering-this is the infatuation or crush we have for someone else
Is about the ability to offer happiness.
To offer happiness one needs to be happy with self, only then will they be able to pass on the same to others
If you have enough understanding and compassion, then every moment can be a moment of joy.
