Eight questions about Twitter's future now that Elon Musk is taking over

Most experts agree that our species, Homo sapiens (Latin for “wise men”), is the ninth and youngest human species. The lives of the other eight species tell a story of how humans slowly evolved away from the other apes, developing the ability to walk, eat meat, hunt, build shelters, and perform symbolic acts. Our ancestors probably pushed our closest relatives, the Neanderthals, to extinction. Wise guys finish last.

Our Species Are Not The First Humans On Earth

Around 6 million years ago, a branch of apes evolved to become the first species of the genus Homo. These early humans ditched the long arms of apes for stronger legs. While they could no longer swing around on trees, they could stand upright, walk, and colonize new ecosystems, away from the forest. The brains of early humans grew until we were using complex tools to hunt large animals, build fires, and construct shelters.

By the time Homo sapiens arrived on the scene some 300,000 years ago, we were the ninth Homo species, joining habilis, erectus, rudolfensis, heidelbergensis, floresiensis, neanderthalensis, naledi, and luzonensis. Many of these species lived for much longer periods of time than we have, yet we get all the attention. It is time for a family reunion.

We Are The Ninth Species

H. Habilis was small, clocking in around 70 pounds and standing somewhere between 3.5 feet and 4.5 feet tall. We also know that H. habilis made complex tools, including stones used to butcher animals. H. Habilis lived as the only member of our genus for nearly a million years.

H. Habilis: The Handy Man (2.4 Million – 1.4 Million Years Ago)

H. erectus is the first human with a significantly larger braincase than that of apes. They also had smaller teeth. The latter adaptation probably helped H. erectus eat meat and quickly digestible protein. This would fuel the increased nutritional requirements that came with taller bodies and larger brains. H. erectus was a very successful species. They walked the Earth for a period lasting nearly nine times as long as our current reign.

H. Erectus: The Enduring Hiker (1.89 Million to 110,000 Years Ago)

We know little about Homo rudolfensis, a hominid discovered near Kenya’s Lake Rudolf (now known as Lake Turkana). H. rudolfensis had a considerably greater braincase than Homo habilis — a good indicator that the species was human. However, some scientists argue it may be better placed with the genus Australopithecus, a close relative of Homo, because of its smaller size and similarities in the pelvis and shoulder.

H. Rudolfensis: The Stranger (1.9 Million to 1.8 Million Years Ago) 

Around 700,000 years ago, Homo heidelbergensis (sometimes referred to as Homo rhodesiensis) arrived on the scene in Europe and eastern Africa. Scientists think that these smaller, wider humans were the first to live in cold places.The remains of animals like horses, elephants, hippopotamuses, and rhinoceroses, were found together with H. heidelbergensis. That proximity suggests that this group of humans was the first to hunt larger animals with spears. To stay warm, these humans also learned how to control fire, and they built simple shelters out of wood and rock.

H. Heidelbergensis: The Hunter (700,000 to 200,000 Years Ago)

Homo floresiensis is known only from remains found in 2003 on the Island of Flores, Indonesia. Along with the remains of H. floresiensis were some stone tools, dwarf elephants and komodo dragons — a discovery that paints quite a scene of the island life of these small humans.The isolation of H. floresiensis likely contributed to its small brains and stature (estimated at approximately 3 feet, 6 inches from a female specimen).

H. Floresiensis: The Hobbit (100,000 to 50,000 Years Ago)

Neanderthals were shorter and stockier than us but had brains that were as big, or even bigger, than our own. Neanderthals lived a tough life. We find bones riddled with fractures, suggesting they did not always succeed when they hunted large animals. They also lived in seriously cold environments in Europe and in southeastern and central Asia. To cope, they made fires and lived in sophisticated shelters. They also made clothing, using complex tools such as sewing needles crafted from bone.

H. Neanderthalensis: The Neanderthal Thinkers (400,000 – 40,000 Years Ago)

Homo naledi were small hominids that lived in South Africa. We do not know much about H. naledi, because they were only discovered in late 2015. In a single expedition, scientists excavated an astounding 1,550 specimens from at least 15 individuals. These specimens show us that H. naledi were small (around 4 feet, 9 inches). While the excavation unearthed a treasure trove of human fossils, the researchers found no tools or other animals alongside H. naledi, so their lifestyle remains a mystery.

H. Naledi: The Enigmatic Newcomer (335,000 to 236,000 Years Ago) 

In 2019, researchers visited a small cave on an island in northern Indonesia. Inspired by the discovery of H. floresiensis, the scientists wondered whether other islands also had human dwellers. The researchers struck gold — kind of. Though they found human remains, they only unearthed seven teeth, three foot bones, two finger bones, and a fragment of a thighbone. Still, due to its geographic isolation and small size, the scientists felt confident in declaring that this <a href="https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-019-01152-3">species was unknown to science</a>. They named it luzonensis after Luzon, the island on which it was found.

H. Luzonensis: A Polemic Finding (at Least 67,000 Years Ago)

Not all these extinct humans coexisted with our H. sapiens ancestors. Most of them probably went extinct due to intense changes in climate. After humans moved into Europe, Neanderthal numbers began to dwindle. We competed for space and food, and we outmatched our closest relatives. The fact that they held on for so long suggests the tides could have turned easily against us.

<ul><li>Entrepreneurship is the invisible hand directing capital and talent toward solving problems.</li><li>The biggest challenges attract a swarm of talent and capital that grinds them down until they're largely solved.</li><li>This should mean more volatility as the swarm moves faster and faster, but it should also mean that we're knocking down problems at a higher and higher rate.</li><li>Over time, the swarm attacks, the volume and types of people and capital each problem attracts evolves, and the problems that attract and hold the swarm's attention will undoubtedly get fixed.</li></ul>

In 2022, the world will likely hit a momentous milestone-a population of eight billion. The dramatic increase in the world's human population is relatively new. For thousands of years, the world population would live in a mid-sized city today. But knowing how many humans came before us is a question demographers like Toshiko Kaneda and Carl Haub have tried to answer.

Quantifying all of humanity requires a firm starting date for when humans became human. For this exercise, the two demographers chose 190,000 BCE as the cutoff. The demographers estimate that 109 billion people have lived and died over the course of 192,000 years. So adding the people alive today, we get 117 billion people that have ever lived. That means that for every person alive today, there are about 14 people who are not.

Trust should be increased on Twitter as a public platform.

<li>Twitter should be an inclusive arena for free speech. Free speech should only abide by the law.</li>
<li>We should be reluctant to delete tweets, “If in doubt, let the speech exist.”</li>
<li>There should be no behind the scenes manipulation. Not algorithmically nor manually.</li>
<li>Timeouts are better than permanent bans.</li>
<li>The Twitter algorithm should be open source and available online for people to inspect and highlight issues and suggest changes freely.</li>

On the question is funding was really secured, Elon Musk stated that “the funding was indeed secured”. However, the SEC San Francisco office still pursued an active public investigation.
The banks then warned Elon that if he didn’t settle with the SEC, they would cease to provide working capital and Tesla would go bankrupt immediately. The result was that Elon was forced to admit that he lied, even though it was false, to save Tesla's life. “I was forced to concede to the SEC, unlawfully, those bastards.”

Before Elon invested, Tesla was just a shell company with no employees and no intellectual property. Martin Everhard created a false narrative that he created the company.

Tesla almost went bankrupt in its pursuit to automate manufacturing and achieve volume production. The problem wasn't that they overestimated how much they could automate. Instead, they had issues with almost every aspect of the Model 3 production line, from cells to packs to motors to final assembly.
Tesla is the first car startup since the 1920s that reached production without going bankrupt. Elon lived in the factories for three years. He slept on the floor so that the team who was going through a hard time could see that he didn't just sit in his ivory tower. He was in it with them.

Elon states that to accelerate the advent of sustainable energy, there must be scale. "We've got to transition a vast economy that is currently overly dependent on fossil fuels to a sustainable energy economy."
Energy must be sustainably generated with wind, solar, hydro, geothermal and nuclear. Then stationary storage batteries are needed since solar and wind are intermittent. This is a task for humanity, not just for Tesla, and sooner is better for the environment.

Scale is at the heart of Elon's master plan

Social cues for Elon that he has Asperger's syndrome were not so intuitive. He was very bookish. He took everything literally. As a result, he was frequently bullied and had a difficult childhood.
Elon consumed many books and movies, which helped him in time to understand things that most people intuitively understand.

Elon states that “we should be optimistic about the future and fight to make that optimistic future happen.” The future cannot just be about one miserable thing after another, solving one sad problem after another. There have to be things that get you excited and want to make you live. These things are important, and we should have more of them.

NFTs are a blockchain-based method for minting digital files of original artwork that is revolutionizing the art world. With this new technology, artists can reach new audiences with their work, gain the ability to directly transact with collectors, be able to earn royalties on future sales, provide verifiable provenance to their buyers, and enjoy many more practical and creative benefits.In January 2022, there were over one million NFTs sold totaling over $2 billion, with over 500,000 unique buyers.

When talking to artists who hadn’t yet entered the NFT space, many identified the same barriers to entry.<ul><li>They don't understand how to find buyers for their NFT.</li><li>They have environmental concerns.</li><li>They believe that NFTs are a trend.</li><li>They don't understand how it works.</li><li>They have security concerns.</li></ul>

Top Five Barriers to Creating NFTs

Much of the hesitation around wading into the NFT space has to do with uncertainty and confusion: artists don't know how the technology works, how to find buyers, or how to keep their assets secure. What could change - is greater access to educational resources. This can be done by seeking out other artists working in the space and connecting with the community on platforms like Twitter and Discord. Curators and art advisors working in the NFT space can also give guidance and help them walk through creating their first NFT.

Three Changes That Would Increase Adoption: Education

Artists who had already created NFTs told us their biggest challenge was learning how to accurately price their work. Artists who are reluctant to join the space say the same. Pricing a work shouldn’t be arbitrary and needs to factor in medium, collector demand, the artist’s reputation, how much time it took to complete, and other variables. Since 2012, a handful of sociologists have focused on defining the subfield of digital sociology. The subfield became formalised in the UK when the British Sociological Association members created a new study group designed to develop a set of best practices for digital sociology. In the U.S., there is no formalised organisation around the subfield, but many sociologists have turned to the digital in research focus and methods. They can be found among research groups, including the American Sociological Association's sections on Communication, Information Technologies, and Media Sociology.

When you start a company and want to do really well, you need to work super-hard.
Working hard means working every waking hour. If someone else is working 50 hours and you're working a hundred, you'll get twice as much done in the course of a year.

Your product or service has to be really great. Unless it's an untapped market, your product or service needs to be much better than your competitors.
It can't be a little bit better; it has to be a lot better. Consumers will always buy the trusted brand - unless there is a huge difference.

If you're creating a company of it you're joining a company, it is vital to attract great people. 
So, either join an amazing group that you respect or if you're building a company, gather great people. The success of the company will depend on how talented and hardworking that group is and the degree to which they are focused cohesively in a good direction.

Many companies spend money on things that don't really make the product better, For example, Tesla never spent money on advertising but instead puts all the money into R&D and manufacturing and design.
Consider if your efforts are resulting in a better product or service. If not, stop those efforts.

As you get older, your obligations increase. Once you have a family, you start taking risks not just for yourself but for your family as well. Then it gets much harder to do things that might not work out.
Now is the time to take risks. Do something bold. You won't regret it.
