Ensure that you spend time with positive and supportive people. Ask yourself how you feel when you leave someone's company. That can be a helpful clue as to who you may want to spend your time with. To find people that share more of your own values or interests, join a club, attend workshops or look on meetup.com.

Social impact

The concept of social facilitation is that we generally improve our performance and skill base when we are in the presence of others. As a result, we try harder and focus better. For example, working out in a gym makes us work out harder than exercising at home. The international organisation, the Toastmasters, works on this theory. They help people learn confidence in public speaking and leadership. Use the idea of social facilitation when you want to improve a skill.

To compare is to despair. When you decide to give up on yourself because others can do it better or have more talent, it is an excuse not to participate. Instead, when you look at people you admire, ask what they might be doing to improve themselves. Successful people often have good habits such as discipline, effort, consistency, and a willingness to take action.

Stop idealising others

Act like the person you admire or want to become. Just like actors and performers, they take on a different persona. They have stage names, dress a certain way in that role and show only certain aspects of themselves. We can do that until it becomes more ingrained.

The premise is that if a frog is dropped into boiling water suddenly, it will jump out; but, if the frog is placed in lukewarm water and slowly brought to a boil, it will not recognise the danger and will be cooked to death.These are my intellectual guiding principles. They will all aid in clearer thinking and decision making on the entrepreneurial journey.

Rather than asking, “How can I grow my company?” you should ask, “What are the weaknesses of my company?” How can I work on them? Brainstorm with a list of things to avoid.

1. Inversion

People deceive themselves about socially acceptable preferences by saying one thing in private and different things in public. Beware of such people.

2. Hypocrisy

We emulate one another since we have no idea what we want. We crave the same things as other people instead of looking at our own needs.

3. Desire vs. Need

Society excels at developing talent but fails miserably at creating genius. Talented people can hit targets that others cannot. On the other hand, a genius can identify targets that others cannot see.

4. Talent vs. Genius

Stay away from the competition. Focus on problems in an organization that would otherwise go unsolved.

5. Compete to solve

When you make a conscious decision to do one thing, you also make an unconscious decision to do something else. Do something every day.

6. Opportunity Cost

Large gaps between rapidly evolving technologies and stale social standards create new business opportunities. For example, the launch of the iPhone was at the appropriate time in 2007. Google Glass was released too soon.

7. The Window of Opportunity

A group of people working on a project will argue over the tiniest of details. What is complicated will be overlooked. Instead of discussing the appropriate computer system, the team can quarrel about the colour.

8. The Law of Triviality

A small amount of something might have the opposite impact of a large amount. A little bit of stress can help you wake up, but too much stress is harmful. Do not put too much pressure on yourself.

9. Hormesis

We are oblivious to what we can not see. Not everything that matters can be measured, and not everything that’s measured has any significance. People manage what they can measure. So society keeps making the same mistakes.

10. Legibility

Corporations encourage conventionality, but the Internet encourages individuals to be distinctive. If you work in a creative profession, strive to be the only one with your style and go with it. Make yourself some intellectual real estate.

When everyone agrees on something, it can lead to disastrous decisions.

Why Are There So Many Bad Leaders In The World?

A big part of the problem is that we really don’t know how to pick good leaders, due to psychological biases and trying to serve our own self-interests, rather than the greater good.One obvious reason is fear. Tyrants are punitive and will subjugate anyone who questions their authority. However, there are many people who willingly follow tyrannical leaders. To better understand we need to explore the psychology behind bad leaders and their followers.

The Psychology Behind Bad Leaders And Their Followers

1. We Value the Wrong Leader Qualities. We value strong, confident leaders, but often confuse arrogance and narcissism for strength. Research shows that the worst leaders are very narcissistic and arrogant. Bad leaders are convinced that they are right, rarely take counsel, and don’t learn from their mistakes. The very best leaders possess humility and know that they: a) aren’t always right (and they need others’ input); and, b) can continuously learn and improve as leaders.

Reasons We Choose And Follow Bad Leaders

2. We Equate Effectiveness with Being a Good Leader. We place great value on results, but often neglect to consider how those results were obtained (i.e., “the ends justify the means”). Truly good leaders are successful, but they are careful to do the (morally) right things. Good leaders minimize harm and strive to represent all of their constituents, not just those who they favor.

3. We Crave Power. Leadership expert, Jean Lipman-Blumen, in her book on Toxic Leadership, suggests that followers enable and assist bad leaders – allowing them to get into positions of power, and supporting their misdeeds. All too often, followers look to and support the leaders who will give them what they want, rather than what the country or organization needs. Bad followers (“henchmen”) are drawn to bad leaders because of the promise of sharing the power.

4. We Don’t Hold Leaders Accountable. We often blindly place leaders on a pedestal and assume that they will do the right thing. We need to be active followers and hold leaders accountable. The title of Ira Chaleff’s book, “The Courageous Follower: Standing Up To and For Our Leaders”, says it all. We need to stand up to our leaders when they are on the wrong path, and support them when they are doing the right thing.

5. We Rationalize. All too often we give leaders “a pass” instead of holding them accountable. Or, we allow leaders to be above the rules (“he/she can do it because he/she is the leader”). Finally, we “settle” too easily. Instead of seeking out the very best leader, we “make do” with the poor leader candidates that we have.

The antidote for bad leadership is courageous and engaged followers who serve as a check when the leader misbehaves or takes the wrong path. For this to happen, it is imperative that we foster an environment in which citizens feel they are empowered, and will be protected, if they stand up to bad leaders and their toxic behaviors.

What Is The “Antidote” For Bad Leadership?

Good leaders:<ol><li>Unify and Don’t Divide. Good leaders never create divisions in their constituents, creating a “we vs. they” effect. </li><li>Achieve Results But Limit Collateral Damage. A good leader is effective, but never at the cost of hurting the well-being of followers, or destroying the environment, or turning friends into foes.</li><li>Share the Leadership With Followers. They work with followers, consulting with them, caring for them, and developing their shared leadership capacity.</li><li>Leave the Team, Organization, or Nation Better Off Than They Found It.</li></ol>

So, How Can We Spot A Good Leader?

For, in a democracy, every citizen, regardless of his interest in politics, 'holds office'; every one of us is in a position of responsibility; and, in the final analysis, the kind of government we get depends upon how we fulfill those responsibilities. We, the people, are the boss, and we will get the kind of political leadership, be it good or bad, that we demand and deserve.

There are no necessary evils in government. Its evils exist only in its abuses.

A leader is anyone who takes responsibility for finding the potential in people and processes and has the courage to develop that potential.

“If you let your head get too big, it'll break your neck.”

Why do we choose and follow dictators, despots, and tyrants? Is it us or them that’s the problem? Well, it’s both. Followers reap the leaders they sow and vice versa. So, if we don’t like what we are reaping, we should change what we’re sowing.

Why Would Anyone Follow a Bad Leader?

We may feel lonely if we have no one to sit next to at lunch or when we move to a new city, or no one has time for us on the weekend.  However, the occasional feeling of loneliness has become chronic for millions over the last few decades. While we live in the most connected time in history, we feel the most isolated. In the US, 46% of the population feel lonely regularly. In the UK, 60% of 18 - 34-year-olds often feel lonely.

Everybody feels lonely from time to time

Loneliness is a subjective individual experience. You can be surrounded by people yet feel lonely. If you feel lonely, you are lonely.Loneliness can affect everybody, regardless of money, fame, power, beauty, social skills, a great personality.Loneliness is part of your biology, just like hunger. Hunger make you pay attention to your physical needs; loneliness makes you pay attention to your social needs. So loneliness is an early warning system to ensure you stop behaviour that would isolate you.

Why loneliness is painful

During the Renaissance, Western culture turned its focus away from collectivism to the individual. The Protestant theology further stressed individual responsibility. During the Industrial Revolution, people left their villages and fields to enter factories. As a result, stable communities started to dissolve while cities grew. This trend sped up more and more, and today, we move great distances for new jobs, love, and education while leaving our social net behind.

The start of the loneliness epidemic

Today, we meet fewer people in person and less often. In the US, the mean number of close friends dropped from 3 in 1985 to 2 in 2011. Most people become lonely because they become too busy with work, university, romance, kids, Netflix. Then it's easy to sacrifice time with friends until you wake up one day and discover you feel isolated and desire close relationships.

Sacrificing friends

Studies found that the stress that comes from chronic loneliness is the most unhealthy thing we can experience. When you feel lonely, you become worse at interpreting social signals and understand people less. Your brain starts to become out of tune with recognising faces and categorising neutral faces as hostile, making you become distrustful of others. You assume the worst about others, become more self-centred to protect yourself and appear more cold and unfriendly than you are.

Chronic loneliness is unhealthy

Try to recognise the vicious cycle you may be trapped in.  <ul><li>Accept that loneliness is a normal feeling. Everybody feels lonely at some point.</li><li>Examine what you focus your attention on. Check if you selectively focus on negative things. </li><li>Are you assuming the worst about others' intentions? When you enter a social situation, have you already decided how it will go? Do you assume others don't want you around?</li><li>Can you give others the benefit of the doubt?</li><li>Can you risk being open and vulnerable again?</li><li>Do you avoid being around others to protect yourself?</li><li>Have you become complacent with your situation?</li></ul>

Notice the vicious cycle you're stuck in

<ul><li>Try to reach out to someone today regardless of whether you feel a little lonely or want to make someone else's day better. Maybe it's a friend you haven't spoken to in a while. Call a family member who has become estranged.</li><li>Invite a work colleague for a coffee.</li><li>Go to something you are usually too afraid to go to, such as a sports club.</li><li>Don't go with any expectations. The goal is to open up a bit to exercise your connection muscles or help others exercise theirs.</li><li>If you feel unable to solve your situation yourself, please reach out and get professional help.</li></ul>

We start to form the mental habit of letting ourselves off the hook, so that we don’t trust ourselves to stick to our own commitments, if other people aren’t involved. This creates a belief that we aren’t as important to ourselves as other people are.

Before we try to shift anything, it’s important to really get curious about what’s there. We try to change things about ourselves from a place of judgment, wanting to get rid of what’s bad, rather than really trying to understand ourselves.So start by noticing, when you don’t show up for yourself, what’s going on? What are you feeling at that moment? What are your thoughts? Instead of judging and turning away from all of this, can you turn towards it and try to really see yourself?From this place of acceptance and love, we can start to explore other possibilities.

ধরুন আপনি ফেসবুক ব্যবহার করেন। সেজন্য আপনার কম্পিউটার/ফোন লাগবে, ইন্টারনেট লাগবে, বিদ্যুত লাগবে, বিদ্যুত উৎপাদনে প্রাকৃতিক সম্পদ লাগবে, একটা পৃথিবী লাগবে। এই পৃথিবীর বর্তমান অবস্থার সপক্ষে সাহায্যকারী সূর্য, চাঁদ, মহাকাশীয় সব ব্যবস্থা লাগবে। এভাবে চলতেই থাকবে।কিন্তু এর একটা শেষ থাকা লাগবে। যেখানে এটা বোধগম্য হবে। যা হল স্বাধীন, স্বয়ংসম্পূর্ণ ও আবশ্যক সত্তা, যিনি সৃষ্টিকর্তা।

সৃষ্টিকর্তা আছে তা প্রমাণ করুন

তার মানে স্বাধীন, স্বয়ংসম্পূর্ণ ও আবশ্যক সত্তার প্রয়োজনীয়তা আপনি মেনে নিচ্ছেন।একই ধারনা যদি আমরা প্রকৃতিতে প্রয়োগ করি, দেখা যায়, প্রকৃতি পরাধীন এবং নির্ভরশীল।

আবশ্যক সত্তাটি কেন এই জগত/প্রকৃতি হতে পারে না?

(সৃষ্টিকর্তা কি এমন ভারি পাথর তৈরি করতে পারেন যেটা সরানো সম্ভব না, ফলে এটি তিনি নিজেই আর সরাতে পারবেন না? দর্শনে এটি অমনিপটেন্স প্যারাডক্স নামে পরিচিত)এই প্রশ্নটি প্রশ্ন করার ছলে করা। এটি একটি অকর্মণ্য প্রশ্ন। আমরা যদি প্রশ্ন করি সৃষ্টিকর্তা কি নিশ্চিহ্ন হয়ে যেতে পারেন? সৃষ্টিকর্তাকে আমরা আমাদের আলোচনায় স্বাধীন, স্বয়ংসম্পূর্ণ ও আবশ্যক সত্তা বলে প্রতিষ্ঠিত করেছি। ফলে সৃষ্টিকর্তা নিশ্চিহ্ন হয়ে যাওয়ার ভিত্তিটি নাকচ হয়ে যায়।তেমনি ভাবে সৃষ্টিকর্তা একটি পাথর বানাবেন যেটা তার সরানোর ক্ষমতার ঊর্ধ্বে এটি একটি বাতিল প্রশ্ন।

একাধিক সৃষ্টিকর্তা থাকতে পারে?

সৃষ্টিকর্তাকে আমরা আমাদের আলোচনায় স্বাধীন, স্বয়ংসম্পূর্ণ ও আবশ্যক সত্তা বলে প্রতিষ্ঠিত করেছি। কেউ সৃষ্টিকর্তাকে সৃষ্টি করলে সৃষ্টিকর্তা, নির্ভরশীল হয়ে যান, স্বয়ংসম্পূর্ণ থাকতে পারেন না।

সৃষ্টিকর্তা সব কিছু সৃষ্টি করেছেন, তাহলে কে তাঁকে সৃষ্টি করেছে?

অক্সফোর্ড বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের একটি গবেষণায় দেখা গেছে, যেসব বাচ্চারা কোন ধর্ম সম্পর্কে না জেনে বড় হয়, সবাইকে "এক" সৃষ্টিকর্তায় বিশ্বাস (মনোথিয়েজম) করতে দেখা যায়। ২-৩ নয়।খ্রিষ্টান ধর্ম মনোথিয়েজম বলে কিন্তু তারা তিনের ভেতরে এক সৃষ্টিকর্তায় বিশ্বাস করে। হিন্দুধর্ম মিলিয়নের ভেতরে এক সৃষ্টিকর্তায় বিশ্বাস করে।একমাত্র ইসলাম "বিশুদ্ধ" মনোথিয়েজম। তাছাড়া কুরআনই একমাত্র সংরক্ষিত ধর্ম গ্রন্থ যার মধ্যে বিস্ময় আছে।ঈসা (আঃ) বা মুসা (আঃ) এর বিস্ময়ের কোন প্রমাণ নেই, কারণ সেগুলো ওই সময়ের জন্য সীমাবদ্ধ ছিল। কিন্তু কুরআন সার্বজনীন তাই এটা এখনও আছে। আপনি কুরআন ছুঁতে পারবেন এটা বিশ্লেষণ করতে পারবেন।

কেন ইসলাম?

আপনাকে ৩টি বিস্ময়ের কথা বলবো।কুরআনে আছে আবু লাহাব এবং তার স্ত্রী কাফির থেকে মারা যাবে এবং জাহান্নামে যাবে। আবু লাহাবের পক্ষে ইসলামকে বানোয়াট প্রমাণ করা খুব সহজ ছিল।আবু লাহাব শাহাদা পাঠ করে ইসলাম গ্রহণ করলেই ইসলামকে বানোয়াট প্রমাণ করা যেতো, কিন্তু সে সেটা করেনি।আবু লাহাবেরা যেকোনো মূল্যে রাসুলকে (সাঃ) ঠেকাতে মরিয়া ছিল, অথচ এক বাক্যে ১০ সেকেন্ডে সে পুরো ইসলামকে জাল প্রমাণ করতে পারতো।

কুরআনের একটি বিস্ময়ের কথা বলুন

ইউসুফ (আ:) এর সময়কার শাসনকর্তাকে কুরআনে বলা হয়েছে রাজা, আর মুসা (আঃ) এর সময়কার শাসনকর্তাকে বলা হয়েছে ফেরাউন।বাইবেলে ইউসুফ (আ:) এবং মুসা (আঃ) দুই সময়ের শাসনকর্তাকেই ফেরাউন বলা হয়েছে। যেটা পরবর্তীতে সংশোধন করা হয়েছে যখন Rosetta Stone থেকে হায়ারোগ্লিফিক্সের মানে বের করা হয়েছে। ইউসুফ (আ:) এর সময়ে ফেরাউনের ডাইনেস্টি তখনও আসেনি।কুরআন এটা জানলো কি করে?কুরআন নাকি বাইবেলের নকল! তাহলে কুরআন এই ভুলটা কেন নকল করেনি?এটি একটি খুবই নির্দিষ্ট ও সঠিকতম সত্য যা কেবল কুরআনে পাওয়া যায়।

কুরআনের আরেকটি বিস্ময়ের কথা বলুন

পারসিয়ানরা রোমানদের শুধুই হারায়নি, তাদের প্রায় নিশ্চিহ্ন করে ফেলেছিলো। অথচ কুরআনে দাবি করা হয়েছে, রোমানরা হেরেছে, কিন্তু তারা জিততে যাচ্ছে। এটা কল্পনা করাই কঠিন। ব্যাপারটা এমন যে আপনি বললেন আপনি আমেরিকা জয় করবেন এবং ট্রাম্পকে হারিয়ে দেবেন। এটা পাগলের প্রলাপ।প্রায় ৩-৯ বছরের মাথায় রোমানরা পারসিয়ানদের হারিয়ে দেয়। এগুলো ঐতিহাসিক তথ্য।এরকম শতশত কুরআনের বিস্ময় আছে।

কুরআনের আরও একটি বিস্ময়ের কথা বলুন

বিজ্ঞান ৫টি ইন্দ্রিয় দিয়ে ভৌত দুনিয়াকে পরিমাপ করে। বিজ্ঞান অতিপ্রাকৃত নিয়ে কথা বলে না। তারা ভৌত জগতে সীমাবদ্ধ।অথচ তারা কৃষ্ণবস্তু খুঁজে পেয়েছে যা তারা দেখতে পায় না, ধরতে পায় না, শুনতে পায় না, ঘ্রাণ নিতে পায় না, অনুভব করতে পায় না।একইভাবে সৃষ্টিকর্তাকেও দেখা যায় না, ধরা যায় না, শোনা যায় না, ঘ্রাণ নেয়া যায় না, অনুভব করতে পারা যায় না। তার মানে কি তিনি নেই?তাছাড়া বিজ্ঞানের সাথে সৃষ্টিকর্তার কোন সংঘর্ষ নেই। অনেক বিজ্ঞানী আছেন যারা উচ্চতর শক্তিতে বিশ্বাস করেন, যেমন আইনস্টাইন।

বিজ্ঞানীরা সৃষ্টিকর্তাকে প্রমাণ করতে পারেনি আর আপনি পেরেছেন, তাই কি?

আপনি যদি একটি প্লেট অসীম সময় ধরে রেখে দেন, সেখানে কি বিরিয়ানি তৈরি হবে? এটা সম্ভব না। বিরিয়ানি তৈরির উপাদান যদি অনুপস্থিত থাকে, সময়ের ভূমিকা এখানে অপ্রাসঙ্গিক।আপনি অনন্তকাল অপেক্ষা করলে এই প্লেটে বিরিয়ানি বা কোন সৃষ্টিজগত দেখতে পাবেন না, যদি না তা তৈরির উপকরন থাকে।

The rule is not to move any further items from the first list onto the second until you’ve freed up a slot by finishing one of the 10 items.You can also set a pre-established time boundary for certain types of daily work — for example, to resolve to write from 8AM to 11AM — and to make sure you stop when time’s up.

1. Adopt a “fixed volume” approach to productivity

Focus only on one big project at a time. It might seem alluring to get everything off your plate quickly. But multitasking rarely works well — and you’ll soon find that serializing helps you to complete more projects anyway, thereby helping relieve your anxiety.

2. Serialize

You’ll inevitably underachieve at something, simply because your time and energy are finite. But strategic underachievement — nominating in advance the areas of your life in which you won’t expect excellence — helps you focus your time and energy more effectively.For example, you might decide in advance that it is fine to keep the keep the living toom untidy until you finish the novel, or to do the bare minimum on a particular work project so you can spend more time with your children.

It’s easy to grow hopeless and feel ashamed when you can’t get through your whole to-do list. One counter-strategy is to keep a “done list,” which starts empty first thing in the morning, but which you can gradually fill in throughout the day as you get things done. It reminds you that you could have spent the day doing nothing, yet, you didn't.

4. Focus on what you’ve already completed, not just what’s left to do

Social media is a giant machine for getting you to spend your time caring about the wrong things — and too many of them at once.Consciously choose to care about charity, activism, and politics — and devote your spare time only to those specific causes. Focus your capacity for care, so you don’t burn out.

5. Consolidate your caring

Combat distractions by making your devices as boring as possible, removing social media apps and, if you dare, email. It’s also helpful to choose devices with only one purpose, such as the Kindle reader or a DSLR camera. Otherwise, temptations will be only a swipe away, and you would always feel the urge to do irrelevant things.

Time seems to speed up as we age, likely because our brains encode the passage of years based on how much information we process in any given interval.The standard advice is to combat this by cramming more novel experiences into your life.
