Lao Tzu, the author of Tao Te Ching, stated that the world governs itself. It doesn't need our intervention. Lao Tzu wrote: "When you arrive at non-action, nothing will be left undone."
The idea resembles the basic understanding of the paradoxical concept "we-wei." Wu-wei means "non-doing", "doing nothing", or "effortless action." It is about aligning our actions with nature and not forcing anything.

The ancient art of "letting things happen" doesn't make us passive. Lao Tzu stated that using force, "forcing the flow of nature" always leads to unseen troubles. Nature has its course and is always working in the background to create and recreate the 10,000 things.

Wu-wei can enhance our relationship with the world

Today's society focuses on the importance of conscious human effort. We celebrate effort, despite its actual effectiveness, as we aim to always be busy for the sake of being busy.  Hard work is necessary and action is often reasonable, but on many occasions, it isn't. That is why we often experience that "forcing things" leads to ruin, and pushing our luck beyond nature's constraints often backfires. Conversely, situations often solve themselves when we don't intervene.

Human effort

Spending our lives fighting against nature is a waste of time, no matter how much people celebrate us for engaging in the effort. We are really better off accepting what is and navigate through it like water, flowing through a rocky surface.

Navigate through life like water

With effortless action, we are not so much doing, but rather going. We start on a river stream without considering where it leads us. We're setting sail into unchartered territory, without getting worried about the great unknown. We swim with the current, not against it, making our way smooth. For example, going on a date means you want to get to know the person. But many people overprepare, overanalyze, and rehearse causing them to become nervous and come across as staged.

Effortless action

We often focus too much on the results.  Zhuangzi talks about how different prospects can influence our actions and emotional states if we attach ourselves to them. In the context of a date, we want the other person to like us, and if we don't succeed, we feel miserable. Instead of just enjoying the evening out, it becomes a stressful event with lots of mental preparations. However, entering a date unprepared lets you act natural. You are present in the moment and most people love that.If we let go of the results, we can act more effortlessly and responsively.

Letting go of the result

Ego often distorts how we perceive reality. For example, when we converse with a spouse, the ego tends to fill the unknown gaps with prejudices, fantasies, and convictions. The larger the ego, the more it will dominate the situation and close us off from what's really going on. That's why Lao Tzu urges us to return to a more unprocessed state he calls "the uncarved block" where the person is unencumbered by intellectual baggage.

We need to be brave enough to let go of what we've learned and ignore our assumptions.  As Lao Tu puts it, "Renounce knowledge and your problems will end. What is the difference between yes and no? What is the difference between good and evil? Must you fear what others fear? Nonsense, look how far you have missed the mark!"

Confucius described "fasting of the heart" as a form of meditation, which leads to letting our preconceptions go and making room to receive.  Understanding wu-wei helps us to let go of the ego, so we can act with the situation at hand, as it is. We let things happen and act responsibly, unrestrained by our preconceived ideas.

Research by Dr David McCleilland of Harvard shows that the people you habitually associate with determines 95% of your success or failure in life. Some people hold us back while others help us forward. You can't hang out with negative people and expect a positive life.  Moreover, you can do all the right things, but be around people who hold you to a lower standard. It is important to be able to recognise the different types of negative people and know how we can sidestep them.

The company we keep

These people are very charismatic. They are masters at sweeping you up into their personal melodramas, then need you to help solve some urgent problem. So you do. But then there's another problem, and another, until you realise that they crave attention and use urgent problems to control you. When you respond to their demands, your life is hijacked by their daily dramas. First they flatter you by convincing you that you are the only one they can count on, then they appeal to your sympathy, ego and desire to do the right thing.

The hostile drama queen

<ul><li>Set boundaries around them and don't allow them to overstep. For example, lay out a strict schedule of your availability.</li><li>Don't ask them how they're feeling. Doing so could lead to a vent or complaint.</li><li>Don't reward their drama. Instead of responding, focus on your own work. Say something like, "Sorry you're feeling bad, but I've got work to do."</li><li>Recharge after an encounter with a drama queen. Go for a walk or listen to music. Don't dwell on the drama.</li><li>If all else fails, distance yourself. Tell them you need time alone and stick to it.</li></ul>

How to deal with the drama queen

You may be in a situation with someone who is intimidating and demanding, and you try to keep the peace by doing whatever they want. But regardless of what you do, it's never enough. When you are a pleaser, you never say "no". This is an unhealthy pattern of behaviour as it results in you being surrounded by rude, selfish, and unforgiving people who treat you like a doormat instead of appreciating that you've put their needs first.

The person you have failed to please a hundred times before

You can deal with people that fails to appreciate you by changing your attitude towards them. <ul><li>Ask yourself why you want to please someone. Is it because you want them to be happy or because you are afraid and insecure? You might be a people pleaser because you fear rejection.</li><li>Assess your priorities. When a person you have been trying to please asks you for anything, stop to think if you really want to do that thing.</li><li>Speak up for what you want.</li><li>Learn how to say "no" or "no, thank you." Let people know when you can't do what they want. You don't need to make excuses.</li></ul>

How to stop trying to please everyone

Someone is perhaps discouraging you from pursuing your goals and dreams. For example, they may think your plans for the future is impossible or that you are joking. They may sabotage your plans to cultivate a new habit. Or they keep you from achieving your potential. You need to ignore naysayers because their madness will destroy you if you give in. You will change into who they say you are and steal your life from you.

The naysayer

<ul><li>Redirect them. When they offer unsolicited opinions about your activities, politely mention that you are not looking for their input and suggest that they focus on improving their own situation.</li><li>Give them credence. Tell them you will consider their thoughts and let them know how it went.</li><li>Answer their objections. If they speak beyond their own knowledge, ensure to do your homework and then show them facts supporting your approach.</li><li>Eliminate them if they constantly bring you down.</li></ul>

How to deal with a naysayer

The manipulator will say and do anything to get others to do what they want them to do. These people prioritise their own feelings and needs and insist that you help them at all costs., but if you need assistance, they will not help you. The manipulator deliberately creates an imbalance of power and exploits the victim to serve his agenda.

<ul><li>Avoid self-blame. Remember that you are not the problem, you are being manipulated.</li><li>Turn the focus on them by asking probing questions, such as "Does it seem reasonable to you?" or "Does it sound fair?"</li><li>Take your time. Manipulators often expect an answer immediately. Consider leveraging time by saying "I'll think about it." Then consider if you want to negotiate or if it's better to say "no."</li><li>Keep your distance. Manipulators will be very polite to one person and rude to the next.</li></ul>

How to deal with the manipulator

The stubborn person insists you should be someone else. They label you unfairly based on who you used to be. The only relationships that work well are the ones that encourage you to be a better person without trying to change you into someone other than yourself. There's no need to pretend to be someone you're not. Don't feel threatened and don't conform only to please them. Let people love you for who you are, not who they want you to be. Or allow them to walk away.

The stubborn person

They judge you by your past, hold it against you and refuse to forgive you. They refuse to support you or allow you to grow past your mistakes. <ul><li>Forgive yourself. People find it much harder to forgive themselves than to forgive others.</li><li>Try self-love. You are more than your past mistakes.</li><li>Learn from your mistakes and improve yourself. Understand what went wrong, and work on it so that it never happens again.</li></ul>

How To Ignore People

Back in the wild old days, my best buddy and I used to call going out “looking for trouble”. We weren’t hoping for a punch-up or a little light robbery, but a spontaneous adventure involving music, strangers or just the city at night. All that spur-of-the-moment fun has taken quite a beating since the pandemic began, for many millions of us. First came the lockdowns, social distancing and closed venues, then the cautious reopening when even a trip to the pub or an art gallery had to be booked weeks in advance.

Fun comes so much from spontaneity – doing things and not thinki

We also need spontaneity to embrace change, says the clinical psychologist and writer Linda Blair. “And change is necessary for progress of any sort. Spontaneity makes us happier, too.” In 2016, a team of Austrian and Italian researchers found that people with less spontaneity in their lives experienced greater “psychological suffering”.

The best way forward at the moment, says Blair, “is to turn things on their head and instead of talking about trying to be spontaneous, you say: ‘There is no other way to be right now.’” Now is the time for seizing the day and moving with your heart, or your gut. “You want to go to your favourite restaurant?” asks Blair. “Don’t plan it – go there today, while it’s still open.”

Triggers are things that keep us acting automatically. The cookie jar that makes us think we’re hungry. The phone ping that takes us into a rabbit hole and delays making lunch by 45 minutes. Triggers are not spontaneity’s friends. So Blair’s top tip for starting the day free of our inner naysayers and triggers is to write down all your thoughts first thing in the morning, before you do anything else. This process is called the Morning Pages and was devised by the writer Julia Cameron, originally as part of what she called the Artist’s Way – a method for unblocking creativity.

One of the barriers is people wanting to stay in their comfort zones, where it’s safe, predictable, ordered and people know how things are going to go. The comfort zone can be useful – especially at the moment, when we need to keep safe, but there’s a danger of talking ourselves out of adventuring.

Next time you catch yourself chickening out of doing something on the spur of the moment, he suggests overruling your critical brain and telling yourself: I’m doing this because it’s good for me. And I like it. It’s fun. Let’s persist through this initial anxiety and see what comes afterwards. Mindfulness will help you enjoy the moment you’re in, Oliver says, but it doesn’t have to be a full-on meditative practice. Just anchor into your feet, notice your breath for 10 seconds, roll your shoulders back, drop your arms and spend some time coming down into your body.

we don’t accurately estimate what the future is going to be like. We usually think it’s going to be better than it is. And we don’t accurately estimate what the past was like, either. We are hard on ourselves and overly critical about what happened – or we romanticise it. But now, you can be happy right now

But Dabasir was determined. He had the spirit of a free man, and he had to be free. After being a slave for a while in Syria, he fled and came to Babylon to face his debts. He had three goals:<ol><li> Separating one-tenth of his earnings,</li><li>Meeting his basic needs with the seven out of tenth,</li><li>Paying his debts in installments with the remaining.</li></ol> He became a camel trader and paid for his debts in a long time and got his freedom. And that's it. What did you expect? A Dabasir who ran from battle to battle and became rich with spoils? He was a simple slave like us.
