The Premise: Pitching a startup idea or a company to investors using the Pitch Deck.One slide, in particular, is given the same feedback by a venture capitalist across a bunch of founders: Competition.Why competitor slides are often less than ideal is because founders are experts of their companies and users (or at least they should be), but often are not experts in their competitors. But they spend the same amount of time structuring this slide as every other slide.

The Problem With A Slide In The Pitch Deck

The headline of the competitor slide is how your company has meaningful, defendable differentiation. We sometimes call this the moat, which needs to follow at least three principles:<ul><li>Prove that your company has defendable differences from competitors.</li><li>Prove why these are THE differentiators that’ll make your company a winner.</li><li>Prove you are accurately portraying the information above.</li></ul>

The Ideal Competitor Slide

The first principle is easy. You need to provide how your company is different from everyone else. Most companies can get this far. This comes primarily in a mix of two flavours:(1) How our solution is different (unique insight) or (2) How our execution is different (<a href="https://www.ycombinator.com/library/6e-how-to-evaluate-startup-ideas">unfair advantage</a>).Recommendation: Go beyond the easy step.

The First Principle

<ul><li>Founders lose credibility because they purposely or inadvertently downplay their competitors.</li><li>Spend the time thinking deeply about your unique insights and unfair advantages. It’s very possible you don’t have it. This step will not only help you raise, but also increase your chances of building a successful startup.</li><li>Think and communicate in terms of trade-offs. Your competitors are not dumb. Why did they choose one model over another? What are the trade-offs? And why did you choose this trade-off that positions you to win. It needs to relate back to your core messages.</li></ul>

Advice To Follow

<ul><li>Founders "straw-man" competitors, replacing the product of competitors with more convenient ones from which to differentiate.</li><li>Excluding real competitors, and only share competitors that are easy to differentiate.</li><li>This happens when they are living in denial, and even claim that they don't have any competitors, which is always an illusion.</li></ul>

You might be having a lot to do stuff, but ever thought all the tasks in your lists are needed?We might be taking a lot of projects, tasks, or things because they're interested at that time, but we might never look back into that, like our enrolled Udemy courses.Decide not to do things, try to concentrate on a few tasks first, or try batching like do some set of tasks at one week and another set for another week.

1. Reduce

Automate your tasks, since we are living in AI-driven world, it is so easy to automate our tasks. There are many SAAS and no-code tools that help to do your things simple.we are now able to send scheduled emails, earn passively by automating.

2. Automat

We are not pro's at all the tasks we have, we need to hire few people for this.It's better spend some money for freelancers than to take large tension and make mistakes.Figure out how much your time costs, figure out is only you needed to do this task and delegate.

Productivity for Lazy People - The RAD System

Herzberg’s Two-Factor Theory is one of the most prominent theories regarding motivation factors in the workplace. Psychologist Frederick Herzberg based his theory on some elements of Abraham Maslow's theory of motivation and needs. Herzberg’s theory broke down workplace needs into two categories:<ol><li>Motivation factors ensure employee satisfaction</li><li>Hygiene factors determine the basic level of stability and job security. Job dissatisfaction arises from a lack of hygiene factors.</li></ol>

Herzberg’s Two-Factor Theory of motivation

The theory holds that job satisfaction and dissatisfaction are two separate categories with very different contributing factors. To ensure workplace harmony, employers must increase employee motivation factors and increase workplace hygiene.

Job satisfaction and dissatisfaction are distinct categories

According to Herzberg, the two-factor theory holds that motivational factors and hygiene factors need to be addressed independently. The primary hygiene factors:<ul><li>Pay. Low pay will quickly cause dissatisfaction among employees.</li><li>Benefits. An employer should ensure that the benefits they provide are competitive.</li><li>Job security. Employers should let employees know they are valued and that their jobs are safe.</li><li>Work conditions. Employers shouldn’t cut corners when it comes to the welfare and safety of employees.</li></ul>

Hygiene factors in the workplace

Factors that motivate employees to work often have to do with giving them a greater sense of purpose and significance in their current position.<ul><li>Recognition. Job performance improves when employees are praised and recognized for a job well done.</li><li>Autonomy. Employees feel motivated when they feel that they have an important job with a large degree of self-direction.</li><li>Meaningful work. Employers should strive to help employees see how their work contributes to a greater end product.</li></ul>

Motivational factors

Give employees more autonomy. The more that employees feel that they are responsible and autonomous, the greater the sense of achievement.Provide feedback. Let employees know how they’re doing by providing meaningful and constructive feedback.Improve working conditions. A simple way is to provide a clean, safe, and aesthetically pleasing workspace.Poll employees to get a sense of what motivates employees.Take a macro view of employee welfare. Employers cannot choose between motivation or hygiene. They must strive to improve both.

How to Use Herzberg’s Two-Factor Theory to Boost Worker Productivity

Almost every student has done one of these bad habits that decrease our focus, concentration, and energy and makes it harder to study and learn. That's why here is a list of the bad habits we should quit:<ul><li>Cramming all night</li><li>Procrastinate</li><li>Multitask</li><li>Lacking a productivity system</li><li>Get easily distracted</li><li>Not taking breaks or rewarding yourself.</li></ul>

How to study better and lesser while quitting bad habits 

It can be really tempting to do cramming all night but trying to absorb big amounts of information in a short time is not effective. Plus, this practice has disadvantages:<ul><li>Increases your stress levels</li><li>Affects the ability to concreate</li><li>Reduce the amount of sleep  that you get </li></ul>Solution: <ul><li>Make a study plan and a review timeline</li><li>Start to prepare for exams at least 2 weeks before the test</li><li>Go to sleep earlier the day before </li></ul>

Don't study the night before the exam

Doing anything at the last minute is the worst thing we can do. There are several reasons why we may procrastinate such as distractions, fear of failure, and perfectionism. However, if we don't control our time somebody else will (social media I am looking at you!!).So, in order to get things done:<ul><li>Plan your activities ahead</li><li>Estimate how much time you will spend on tasks.</li><li>Time track what you do and you will see where your time is going. </li></ul>

Don't procrastinate!

It's something that may sound productive but it isn't, doing several things at the same time, decrease our concertation from the activities since we are switching from one to another. Solution:<ul><li>Concentration on one activity at a time.</li><li>It increases the level of focus and the quality of our work.</li><li>Time blocking can be helped to take similar tasks one at a time in a single session.  </li></ul>

Say NO to Multitasking!

It doesn't mare what type of system or method you use as long as it helps you stay organized.But, if you want some tips, your system should have these characteristics.<ul><li>A method to prioritize and manage your projects, tasks, and chores.</li><li>Plan events and be able to see them in a day, week, and month view.</li><li>Keep track of every activity that you are doing</li></ul>

When you are in the class, don't use your phone or watch TikTok videos. Can be really hard to not get distracted by the number of objects or the environment of your study space, but this activity has a cost.Solution:<ul><li>Turn off any devices that could distract you from the class.</li><li>Get prepared before the class (clean up your desk, read the slides or the textbook from the lecture)</li><li>Take notes on the most important things you hear during the class.</li></ul>

Don't get distracted during the class

Whenever you accomplish something like finishing the assignment, writing a paper, or reviewing the last lecture presentation; you should reward yourself.You can...<ul><li>Eat snacks</li><li>Watch a video</li><li>Call a friend</li><li>Take a nap</li><li>Drink a coffee</li></ul>Any activity that brings you joy should be enough to remind yourself that the effort you do is worth it.By the way, take breaks after tackling demanding tasks that take longer o finish, remember we need rest and gain energy. Please, do it! Believe you don't want to get burned out.

<ul><li>You need to learn how to manage yourself before you can manage your business.</li><li>Communicate ideas and proposals in writing during the decision making process.</li><li>If you do it twice, write it down. Documentation is the key to building scalable processes.</li><li>Don’t ignore conflict. Be transparent, give/take feedback often, and be an active listener.</li><li>Be obsessed with learning about your customer. Do so by asking better questions.</li></ul>

The Great CEO Inside You: Key Takeaways

<ul><li>Find a partner who has complementary skills to yours. </li><li>Give up a large percentage of the company. It’s worth it.</li><li>Do not create a 50/50 partnership. While 50/50 sounds like an ideal, it actually leads to real pain if there is no easy way to break a deadlock.</li><li>Founding teams should never grow beyond six until there is a true product-market fit(PMF). </li><li>PMF is having created a product that customers are finding so much value in that they are willing to both buy it and recommend it later.</li><li>Metrics that show whether PMF has been achieved include: revenue, renewal rates, NPS (net promoter score).</li></ul>

The Initial Team

Inefficient leaders waste a lot of time reaching out about, or responding to, one-off issues in real-time. A much more efficient method is to batch your issues and discuss them all at once. Check email only twice a day: morning and afternoon.Schedule two hours each day to work on your Top Goal only. And do this every single work day. Period.The earlier in the day you schedule this Top Goal time, the better, so as to avoid other issues (and people) from pressing for your attention.

Inbox Zero: Work On Your Top Goals

<ul><li>Do not waste other people’s time. It is disrespectful and counterproductive.</li><li>When you anticipate being late, let the other party know as soon as possible.</li><li>Be present. Be focused on what’s being discussed. Do not check your messages. Phone and computer away.</li></ul>

On-Time and Present

<ul><li>Focus on the positives.</li><li>We perform our best when we are having fun and feeling good about ourselves.</li><li>Say or write down one thing that you’re thankful for each day.</li><li>Be appreciative. Tell people when they’ve done something good.</li><li>Set aside 1 hour a week to be intentionally appreciative. Follow up and outreach. </li><li>Do not feign humility by downplaying the act with statements like “It was nothing, anyone could have done it.” No. The person is trying to make you feel appreciated. Anything other than “thank you” will rob them of their goal.</li></ul>

Gratitude

<ul><li>If you can spend 75-80% of your time doing things that energize you – magic will occur.</li><li>Audit your time and figure out how much of it is spent on activities that energize you and what activities drain you. Outsource or delegate the things that drain you as much as possible.</li></ul>

Check Your Energy

Zone of incompetence: other people do better than youZone of competence: you can do it just fine, but others are just as good as youZone of excellence: things you are better at than others. You will want to keep doing these things, but this is dangerous. You need to move away from these things.Zone of genius: these are the things that you are uniquely good at in the world and that you love to do. This is where you should be driving toward spending most, if not all, of your time.

The Four Zones

<ul><li>Your physical health is paramount.</li><li> Take care of your mental health. Build a support group.</li><li>Get a therapist, even if you don’t think you need one. You will find it invariably useful.</li></ul>

If you want the most effective and efficient decision-making process, require that anyone who wants to discuss an issue write it up, along with the desired solution, ahead of time.Two ways to do this:The hard way: Write an extraordinarily thorough analysis from the get-go.The easy way: Write a draft, circulate it to the meeting participants before the meeting, and invite comments and questions. This method, though time-consuming for the sponsor, yields extraordinarily thoughtful decisions in a very short amount of time.

Decision Making

<ul><li>You get buy-in when people feel they are part of the decision and their input matters</li><li>When people are given more influence, they feel more invested.</li></ul>The Three Methods:<ul><li>The manager decides, tells the team, and answers questions.</li><li>The manager creates a straw man (hypothetical answer designed to inspire discussion), shares it with the team, invites feedback, facilitates group discussion, and then determines the final answer.</li><li>The manager invites the team to a meeting with no straw man to discuss the dilemma from scratch. The final decision is made by consensus if possible.</li></ul>

Getting Buy-In

<ul><li>Don’t discuss issues verbally. It is both inefficient and ineffective.</li><li>Instead, require that anyone who presents an Issue at a team meeting do so in writing.</li><li>The write-up should include both a detailed description of the Issue as well as their Proposed Solution. They cannot say “I don’t know.” They must at least present a guess. It must be phrased boldly, in direct terms.</li><li>All issues should be presented at the weekly Team Meeting.</li><li>Allow 5 minutes to discuss each Proposed Solution. If consensus is reached in that time – great. If not, don’t spend more time debating.</li></ul>

Issues and Proposed Solutions

<ul><li>Be aware of who is in the room when you have a group discussion. Know that work titles will influence other people’s answers.</li><li>To avoid influencing other people’s ideas, have people write down their votes or thoughts before you share your perspective.</li><li>Let junior people speak and ask questions first.</li></ul>

Loudest Voice in the Room: Ensure Fairness In Meetings

<ul><li>Sloppy agreements are when people don’t show up on time, don’t complete the goals that they declare.</li><li>The antidote is Impeccable Agreements. They are 1) precisely defined and 2) fully agreed to (which almost always means written) by all relevant people.</li><li>There must be consequences to breaking agreements.</li><li>If you can’t meet the agreement, then you have an obligation to let other members of the agreement circle know as soon as possible.</li></ul>

Sloppy Agreements

<ul><li>Don’t hide negative information.</li><li>Our imaginations are much more powerful than reality.</li><li>Share all relevant information with your team, both negative and positive. Let them adapt.</li></ul>

Transparency

Interpersonal conflict is almost always due to people:<ol><li>Not fully sharing their thoughts and feelings</li><li>Not feeling heard</li></ol>Prove to people that you have heard them by summarizing what you just said back to you until they say “that’s right!” Once you assure them that you’ve heard them, then, and only then, will they be open to what you have to say in response.

Conflict Resolution

<ul><li>Ask each people to pretend that they’re the CEO and answer “What are the most important issues (max 3) for me to solve in the next 90 days?</li><li>Ask people to write down their thoughts about the company when they source their Joy, Excitement, Sadness, Anger and Fear.</li></ul>

Issue Identification

<ul><li>You don’t choose your values. You have them.</li><li>Use your values as a guide to who you hire and when you fire.</li><li>Print and distribute your values</li><li>Don’t underestimate the value of FUN as a value.</li><li>Don’t forget to celebrate. Make an effort to publicly acknowledge achievements</li><li>Don’t measure hours. Measure output. However, it’s still key that there is a core period of time when everyone shows up to the office so that collaboration can happen.</li><li>You prevent office politics by never allowing lobbying to be successful.</li></ul>

Values And Culture

<ul><li>Never assign someone an action without them agreeing to it verbally or in writing.</li><li>Encourage people to use their own individual tools for tracking their specific actions. Keep the group goal tracker high level.</li></ul>Areas of Responsibility:<ul><li>When more than one person shares a responsibility, it often does not get done well, or at all. </li><li>One person is assigned to each function in the company. This is the AOR list. Maintain and update it as responsibilities shift.</li></ul>

Every successful large company uses a system of “Objectives and Key Results(OKRs)”.<ul><li>Set vision and goals for the company, each dept, and each individual on a regular basis (usually quarterly).</li><li>Communicate that vision and those goals to every team member.</li><li>Tracking and reporting progress towards those goals on a regular timetable – usually weekly.</li><li>Elicit feedback on what’s going right and what needs to be changed.</li></ul>

Target is 3 objectives with 3 key results for each.The Objective: Where do we want to go? Not necessarily measurableKey Results: How do we know that we’re getting there? These should be measurable.<ul><li>Gather your leadership team and have everyone come to the meeting with their ideas for what the OKRs should be for the quarter.</li><li>Much better to let individuals come up with their own OKRs. They will be more invested. </li></ul>

Tracking Of OKRs

<ul><li>Be efficient, or risk grinding all other processes to a halt.</li><li>Spend as little time as possible with the candidates that you don’t hire (quick evaluation) and as much time as possible with the candidates that you want to and do hire (building a relationship, onboarding/training).</li><li>Be fast. In recruiting, you would make an offer to the candidate “pending reference interviews”.</li></ul>

<ul><li>Ask the customer about them.</li><li>Listen actively and reflect back on what they say.</li><li>At the second meeting, show that you remember what they said at the first.</li><li>Be explicit about NOT talking about your company.</li><li>“Before we talk about what we do, I’d like to start by getting to know your situation, to know if we’re even the right solution for you.”.</li><li>Ask for a limited amount of time, so the burden is low:</li><li>“Let’s have a short introductory call for 10 minutes.”</li></ul>

<ul><li>Identify the customer’s specific challenges by asking the right questions.</li><li>You need to understand your customer’s pain before you present your solution.</li><li>Over time, you will want to build an inventory of problem and solution statements for the different kinds of customers and different product features your product serves.</li></ul>

<ul><li>Don’t hire sales people right away.</li><li>In most cases, salespeople will never be able to sell better than the founders and they won’t be able to sell the product if you are not able to.</li><li>To thrive, salespeople need to have a very clear product offering to sell and a very clear direction on who to sell to.</li></ul>

Seeds : Seeds are generated from word-of-mouth, usually from customer referrals or prior relationships.Nets : Nets are generated from your marketing, such as events, SEO, white papers, and ad campaigns. They are called Nets because you are going for “quantity over quality”.Spears : Spears are generated from direct outbound outreach by your Outbound Reps, usually through email outreach or LinkedIn mining. They are called Spears because they are hyper-targeted and you are going for “quality over quantity”.

<ul><li>The greatest risk is not moving too slow. It’s spreading scarce resources too thin.</li><li>Start by concentrating all of your efforts on the low hanging fruit – the small customer segment that has a particular problem that your product solves 10x better than the competition.</li><li>Only move on to the next customer segment after you have the resources to do so.</li></ul>

<ul><li>You need to document everything.</li><li>Be more interested in learning than in being right.</li><li>You are not making a product. You are solving a customer problem. It is critical that you continually live that customer problem.</li><li>Assign each new team member a buddy with whom they’ll check in each day for fifteen minutes for the first two weeks.</li></ul>

Trust should be increased on Twitter as a public platform.

<li>Twitter should be an inclusive arena for free speech. Free speech should only abide by the law.</li>
<li>We should be reluctant to delete tweets, “If in doubt, let the speech exist.”</li>
<li>There should be no behind the scenes manipulation. Not algorithmically nor manually.</li>
<li>Timeouts are better than permanent bans.</li>
<li>The Twitter algorithm should be open source and available online for people to inspect and highlight issues and suggest changes freely.</li>

On the question is funding was really secured, Elon Musk stated that “the funding was indeed secured”. However, the SEC San Francisco office still pursued an active public investigation.
The banks then warned Elon that if he didn’t settle with the SEC, they would cease to provide working capital and Tesla would go bankrupt immediately. The result was that Elon was forced to admit that he lied, even though it was false, to save Tesla's life. “I was forced to concede to the SEC, unlawfully, those bastards.”

Before Elon invested, Tesla was just a shell company with no employees and no intellectual property. Martin Everhard created a false narrative that he created the company.

Tesla almost went bankrupt in its pursuit to automate manufacturing and achieve volume production. The problem wasn't that they overestimated how much they could automate. Instead, they had issues with almost every aspect of the Model 3 production line, from cells to packs to motors to final assembly.
Tesla is the first car startup since the 1920s that reached production without going bankrupt. Elon lived in the factories for three years. He slept on the floor so that the team who was going through a hard time could see that he didn't just sit in his ivory tower. He was in it with them.

Elon states that to accelerate the advent of sustainable energy, there must be scale. "We've got to transition a vast economy that is currently overly dependent on fossil fuels to a sustainable energy economy."
Energy must be sustainably generated with wind, solar, hydro, geothermal and nuclear. Then stationary storage batteries are needed since solar and wind are intermittent. This is a task for humanity, not just for Tesla, and sooner is better for the environment.

Scale is at the heart of Elon's master plan

Social cues for Elon that he has Asperger's syndrome were not so intuitive. He was very bookish. He took everything literally. As a result, he was frequently bullied and had a difficult childhood.
Elon consumed many books and movies, which helped him in time to understand things that most people intuitively understand.

There have to be things that get you excited and want to make you live. These things are important, and we should have more of them.
