Breath

by James Nestor

Resonant Breathing

a calming practice that places heart, lungs and circulation into state of coherence, where the body is working at peak efficiency.

  • Sit up straight, relax the shoulder and belly, and exhale.
  • Inhale softly for 5.5 sec., expanding the belly as air fills the bottom of the lungs.
  • Without pausing, exhale softly for 5.5 sec., bringing the belly in as lungs empty. Each breath should feel like a circle.
  • Repeat at least 10 times, more if possible.

  • As you reach the natural conclusion of exhale, keep counting in a wispher, letting the voice softly trail out. Then keep lips moving until lungs completely are empty.
  • Continue for 10 to 30 more cycles.

When you look at history there are many mystical practices that people believe people believe to give practitioners super powers. Be it in kungfu, swordsmanship, etc, one commonality in them is that proper breathing is greatly emphasized.

In the book "Breath" by James Nestor, it shows that different breathing patterns can influence body weight, affects size and function of our lungs, hack the nervous system, control our immune response, and restore our health. Breathing isn't simple as it seems.
